Damson Tree - Planting Instructions
Planting Time
- Plant as soon as possible
- Bare root planting season is October to March
- Do not plant in frozen ground
Positioning Trees
- Damsons like a warm spot that is sheltered from the wind
- Either a south or west facing site is most ideal
- Avoid shaded, exposed areas & frost pockets
- Prepare planting hole adding farm yard manure
- Spread roots and ensure plant's root ball is at the right depth
- Because damsons are prolific fruiters, you should only require one or 2 trees
After Care
- Water before planting - soak for 10 minutes
- Water again after planting
- If dry weather persists, water every 2 days
- Weeding is also essential, especially bind weed which can quickly smoother a young tree
- After 2 years, check the tree stakes to ensure they are not too tight around the tree
Note: We don't ship plants on Fridays due to the extended period they would remain without light & water
