How to Prepare Weed Killer
Most weed killers you buy in stores, garden centres & hardware stores come in a concentrated form & require diluting before use.
Before preparing your weed killer, it is important that you read the instructions provided with the pack as each weed killer can vary & different dilution rates apply for different weeds, knapsack sprayers & times of year.
Dilution Rates
- A general rule of thumb would state that weed killers can be diluted in water at a ratio of 100:1 or 50:1
- This would be a 1% mix or a 2% mix
- Your choice of mix will be determined by the weed conditions
How to Prepare Mix
- You will need weed killer (glyphosphate based), water, knapsack sprayer & small measure
- First add water to your sprayer until you have 1litre or 1000ml
- Next using gloves, add your weed killer
- For a 1l or 1000ml of water you will need 10ml of concentrated weed killer( 1% mix) or 20ml of concentrated weed killer (2% mix)
- Shake well
- Apply to area using knapsack sprayer
Another Example of a Weed Killer Mix
- An example dilution rate (Roundup / Rambo)
- You have a 10 Litre knapsack sprayer
- 10 Litres of water = 10,000ml of water
- 100ml of chemical herbicide required for a 1% mix
- Or 200ml of chemical herbicide required for a 2% mix
Further Example of a Weed Killer Mix
- An example dilution rate (Roundup / Rambo)
- You have a 5 Litre knapsack sprayer
- 5 Litres of water = 5,000ml of water
- 50ml of chemical herbicide required for a 1% mix
- Or 100ml of chemical herbicide required for a 2% mix
