Patio Apple Tree - Planting Instructions

Planting Time

  • Plant as soon as possible
  • Can be planted all year round
  • Suited to pots & container
  • Can also be grown directly in soil
  • Do not plant in frozen ground

Positioning Trees

  • Plant in full sun - at least 6 hours of sun each day
  • Avoid shaded, exposed areas & frost pockets
  • South east facing slope is best
  • Prepare planting hole adding farm yard manure
  • Spread roots and ensure plant's rootball is at the right depth

Orchard Planting

  • Spacing between trees: 2.5 - 3m
  • Planting: Plant orchard along a north - south axis
  • This avoids shading & maximises sunlight to plants
  • Stake trees prior to planting

After Care

  • Water bare roots before planting - soak for 10 mins
  • Water again after planting
  • If dry weather persists, water every 2 days
  • Weeding is also essential - especially bind weed which can quickly smoother a young tree
  • After 2 years, check the tree stakes to ensure they are not too tight around the tree
