Patio Apple Tree - Planting Instructions
Planting Time
- Plant as soon as possible
- Can be planted all year round
- Suited to pots & container
- Can also be grown directly in soil
- Do not plant in frozen ground
Positioning Trees
- Plant in full sun - at least 6 hours of sun each day
- Avoid shaded, exposed areas & frost pockets
- South east facing slope is best
- Prepare planting hole adding farm yard manure
- Spread roots and ensure plant's rootball is at the right depth
Orchard Planting
- Spacing between trees: 2.5 - 3m
- Planting: Plant orchard along a north - south axis
- This avoids shading & maximises sunlight to plants
- Stake trees prior to planting
After Care
- Water bare roots before planting - soak for 10 mins
- Water again after planting
- If dry weather persists, water every 2 days
- Weeding is also essential - especially bind weed which can quickly smoother a young tree
- After 2 years, check the tree stakes to ensure they are not too tight around the tree
